levitation
I created this piece in March of 2020, in the heart of COVID lockdown, just a few weeks after getting sent home from my abroad program and finding myself lost and confused with no more school, no current job, and nowhere to I was supposed to be. I filmed it using a tripod constructed of pillows, a table lamp, and an LED light strip.
This project served as an opportunity to explore the claustrophobia and psychological discomfort that arose during COVID, especially those first few months. The spread of the coronavirus meant, for me, finding myself completely uprooted, stuck without a stable home, and simultaneously lacking the basic human needs of both solitude and socialization in a confusing, contradicting way. It was a time of deep internal dialogue, through which I continually second guessed the meaning of the word “real” every time I reminded myself to focus on so-called "real" obligations. This piece is based in musical sound, as I found music to be a constant part of the quarantine for myself and my friends. There are breaks and pauses in the piece, though, serving as manifestations of stilted focus and inspiration. Movement, light, and music are all combined to represent the confusion and struggle within my psyche during this time.
"TODAY"
This piece is an examination and reflection of the omnipresence of violence in today's world--and how it surrounds us, even in our youth. This film was created using entirely archival footage, some of which came from my family’s own home videos.
